Airshow - Tucson

Bookmark and Share

At the airshow "Thunder & Lightning Over Arizona", Davis-Monthan AFB.  The show was March 23 and 24, 2019.  We attended on the 23rd.

The airshow includes ground exhibits, flying performances with stunts and vintage and modern aircraft. Many of the ground exhibits can be entered.  There are presentations and air force personnel and the actual pilots and performers available to talk to.

B17 Bomber, WWII

Mitchell Bomber, WWII

Grumman Hellcat fighter, WWII

Japanese Zero Fighter, WWII
One of the exhibits we entered was a C17A cargo plane. We had a nice chat with the pilot in the cockpit. She has logged lots of miles!

There were precision team flying, stunts and acrobatics. Aircraft included WWII, Korean War, vintage civilian and modern racing as well as modern military craft. Lots of fly-by's and an exhibition by the Air Force Thunderbirds. It was a full day!

A10 ground attack aircraft:

F22 Raptor 5th generation fighter:

Flyby's of aircraft of all types. F86, F35, F22, A10 C17, as well  as WWII aircraft, and so on:

C17 Cargo Aircraft
Then there was the barnstormer. The pilot is Vicky Benzing, who has been "flying in earnest since 2005."

More daredevil flying by Kent Pietsch, Professional Stunt Pilot who landed his "Jelly Belly" plane on a moving truck!:

The Red Bull stunt flyers were next:

Helicopter jump stunts:

The "squirrel suit" flying stunt was amazing. The suit provides glide and lift for the man or woman wearing it:

Helicopter pilot did rolls and loops, fully inverting:

Then the jet powered truck raced the airplane!
